Louisville Drivers to See Cheaper Gas After EPA Ruling
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted Kentucky's request to remove Louisville from the federal Reformulated Gasoline Program. This change is expected to lower gas prices in the area.
The decision will affect Jefferson County and parts of Bullitt and Oldham counties. State leaders estimate that removing the reformulated gas requirement could reduce prices by 10 to 25 cents per gallon. The mandate will be lifted on May 27, 2026.

Louisville Faces Sidewalk Repair Backlog
Louisville is currently dealing with a multimillion-dollar backlog of sidewalk repairs. The city allocates about $2 million annually for these repairs across 26 districts.
The Department of Public Works uses a scale of zero to five to assess the condition of sidewalks. Older neighborhoods like downtown, the West End, and the South End are the most affected. Since 2021, over 190,000 linear feet of sidewalks have been repaired, but many remain in poor condition.
Residents are encouraged to report sidewalk issues through the 311 system. Metro Council members, like Betsy Ruhe from District 21, also have funds available to help expedite repairs. However, there is a noted shortage of contractors to address all the necessary fixes.
